Wish: New and Selected Poems
This New and Selected draws on six previous poetry collections and a generous selection of new work.
Critics have praised Brookes-Butt’s work with Jacqueline Saphra hailing her everlove (2021) as, ‘a profound act of poetic, elegiac empathy, a love song to us all and to the earth we love, share and ravage. A mature, devastating and ultimately redemptive work, engaging with the best and worst of the human condition in poems both personal and universal. Formally versatile, musical, always precise – '
The new poems build on Brookes-Butt’s previous concerns to examine the joys and fears of a grandmother in this troubled, vulnerable and precious world.
About the author:
Maggie Brookes-Butt is an-ex journalist, BBC TV producer, creative writing academic and Royal Literary Fund Fellow. As well as being a full-time writer she is a compulsive reader, hopeful gardener, dreadful cook, besotted grandmother and a Londoner to the bone, though she loves to swim in the sea. Her poems and novels share themes of the strength of women, fear for our world, and hope in the power of love.
