Sweetly Sings Delaney

There is usually a strong bias in favour of London Theatres and London based playwrights. Yet much of the innovation in modern drama has come from elsewhere. John Harding has written about this in his popular book on Shelagh Delaney "Sweetly Sings Delaney " Shelagh grew up in Salford. She shook up London theatre with her A Taste of Honey - an essay in realism, written when she was only 19. John followed this with a study of Manchester playwrights who had a similar impact in the 1920's Staging Life.
